Key West

Johnny and I got to go to a wedding in beautiful Key West at the end of January. The weather was gorgeous and we had 5 days by ourselves while Alex hung out with my parents in Boston. Johnny's friend Jack who he has known since high school in Victoria married a girl from Pittsburgh, Amy. They were married on the grounds of the Hemingway House with 6 toed cats running amok. It was a lovely 5 days and we got to catch up with many of Johnny's St. Joe's friends.
We rented a convertible in Ft. Lauderdale and drove down through the Keys which was a really neat drive. Unfortunately, we left our camera in the rental car when we dropped it off at the Key West airport. Luckily, they found it, so we we rented a golf cart and rode over to pick it up while taking some time to tour the island. Another Victorian, Roy, and his wife Michelle joined us for a tour of the island.
We stayed at a quaint little inn that had breakfast in the gardens every morning. Most of the bride's family stayed there as well. They hosted a welcome party in the courtyard and were very fun people to hang out with over breakfast or even late into the night.
The wedding was really fun and the weather held up for the event. They had to rent a tent last minute due to the threat of rain, but in the end, not a drop fell. Still the tent and the lanterns really added to the ambience, so it all worked out well.

It was a great little vacation for us for sure. We missed Alex, but I know I got used to being able to sleep until 9! We had some great food while we there, too, including delicious key lime pie. Maybe we will get back there some day, but if not, it is great to have finally visited the southernmost portion of the US!
